CCAD here I come!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I got in, I got in, I got in, I got in, I got in, I got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had my interview for Cleveland College of Art and Design on Wednesday and was absolutely shitting myself. I'd had to put together my first ever portfolio and my first essay in over a year on a subject area I've never studied in little over a week; applying for a course I have no academic qualifications for at a college that takes only 25 BA Photography students a year. You could say I'm euphoric.

Lots to do...

Since last week there's not been much going on.

On Wednesday I went for an open day at CCAD and had an informal chat with one of the staff there. It was really nice and personal, a place I thought I could enjoy studying. I also found out that interviews were starting imminently and that while I didn't have an interview date, it could be anytime if/when I did. So since then I've been very busy sorting out a portfolio to take, the culmination of which was today when I took all the originals to a printer to get copies.

On another note, I went to the newly started Lindy Hop classes in Durham on Thursday. Apart from the two teachers and myself, the Swing Dance scene is starting from absolute scratch and I'm quite excited about being involved in getting it going.

Yay!

I already have a reply from one college offering me an interview at the end of March!

Student Finance

I've already heard back from student finance! Bad news and good news. While I would be eligible for a living cost loan for all three years of a degree course, I am not eligible for a tuition fee loan or maintenance grant for the first of those years, which is an arse. Even so, I may not be offered a place to study at all, so I'm not going to panic yet. I will however have to make plans for accumulating the required resources...

Rediscovered Blog!!!

I forgot I had this blog... I even created a new one to start from scratch.

Anyway, for the information of anyone who's had very little or no contact from me over the last months/years, I am a big fat loser dropout. Well, not quite... While Edinburgh the city was so so right for me, Edinburgh the University was so so wrong. I learned not very much about engineering and a fair bit about myself. Since dropping out in May, I've mostly been in Edinburgh trying to figure out what the hell I was going to do next.

The answer is that I've applied today to study Photography at art college, a big jump for me that may well not pay off for me this year. I'm not worried however, I have plans to travel, work and if I don't get in this time round, I'll just have a better opportunity to prepare for next time; possibly trying to get on an art an design foundation course. All this is complicated, of course, by the fact that I may not be able to get student finance for the whole duration of studies. But never mind, life will go on either way; and if I have to save up for a few years to take on further study, so be it. I should get a call in a few days to tell me what the situation is with that.

My First Entry

Today was unremarkable. There's no real reason to post other than that today is the first since I created this thing... Anyway, being at home on university holiday, I got up rather late and was asked suddenly if I wanted to spend a couple of hours in Durham. I thought "why not?", had lunch (my home made tomato, lentil and basil soup), and off I went. The weather was hot, and conducive to relaxing on the grass. So I did. The one notable thing about the afternoon was my ice-cream from Thornton's, a scoop of mint and one of 'honeycomb'. I did do something important (for me anyway) today, in fact. The sailing centre I worked at last year is now expecting me next Monday to volunteer for a week. I haven't been back to that beautiful part of Essex since August. It's based on a lightship anchored in some saltmarsh and I've missed it!
